Grief & Life Transitions

For loss, and for the transitions that change a life whether or not anyone else recognises them as losses.

How we approach it

Grief is not only bereavement. Divorce, emigration, retrenchment, a diagnosis, the end of a career or of a plan for a family all carry losses that seldom get named as such, and therefore seldom get mourned.

There is no schedule to this work. We make space for what has been lost, and for the parts of the experience that are harder to say out loud — relief, anger, or the ordinary continuation of life alongside it.

Cape Town has its own version of this. Children who have emigrated, families spread across time zones, and the particular loneliness of being the one who stayed — or the one who left — come up often in this work, and are treated as real losses rather than logistics.
